Dear HTC Family,
I have just returned from a family vacation in Maine, where there was a mandatory quarantine period of two weeks for anyone entering the State! I confess that I found it hard to unplug for the first few days, it is amazing though how the ocean tides have a way of helping you get in touch with the rhythms of God’s creation. Jesus is constantly calling us to learn His way of doing day to day life.
Let’s be in a daily rhythm of ‘recovering our life’ so we can then live for the sake of others.
In the late summer each year we start to get ready for our fall Alpha Course. I am really excited about the unexpected way God has used Alpha online globally during the pandemic. Click here to watch this encouraging short video. Please consider joining us on Sunday September 13th at 2pm, and think about who you could invite. Maybe it’s a friend who doesn’t necessarily go to church or maybe a work colleague who has questions. Click here to register for Alpha.
As you know during this season, HTC has been offering a variety of opportunities to serve and impact the local community. Through the months of August and September, we are providing opportunities in various areas. Please take a moment to see where you would want to give your time, talent, or treasure to:
1. The Salvation Army
Calling all chefs! HTC will be partnering with the Salvation Army in September to provide meals to the homeless around Washington D.C. The Salvation Army’s Grate Patrol has been operating successfully throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, delivering 120 -150 meals every evening; they will formally re-instate volunteers in September.
Volunteers have the option to prepare large meals such as casseroles to be picked up by Grate Patrol Staff. If you are interested in preparing a large meal for Grate Patrol and/serving please send us an email.
2. Patrick Henry Family Shelter (In-Kind Donations)
Mary Hamilton, Community Coordinator at PHFS in Fairfax wrote to express deep appreciation for the blankets and air mattresses the community outreach team sent at the beginning of the COVID crisis. They continue to ask for support in providing any of the following:
- Disinfectant Wipes
- Hand Sanitizer
Please let us know if you are able to support. Donors are requested to order items online and have them sent to the address below to maintain social distancing:
Patrick Henry Family Shelter
3080 Patrick Henry Dr.
Falls Church, VA 22044
3. NOVA Human Trafficking Initiative:
The Northern Virginia Human Trafficking Initiative, (NOVA HTI) is looking for mentors who would be able to establish a one-on-one relationship with a recovered trafficking client. Volunteers who are interested must be able to make a long-term commitment: a minimum of six months once meeting. If you are interested in this mentorship program or have any questions about what it would entail, please send us an email.
Should you have any questions or require additional information about community outreach, please do not hesitate to contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
4. VA Ready
The Virginia Ready Initiative (VA Ready) is a newly established nonprofit organization formed in response to the economic hardships created by COVID-19. VA Ready helps thousands of unemployed Virginians access the training and resources needed to get back to work. If you’ve been rendered unemployed due to COVID-19 and would like receive support, click here. Or, if you feel led, you can donate to the organization here.
5. Benevolence Fund:
We have recently established a benevolence fund especially for members of HTC that have been effected by the pandemic. Please reach out to Pastor Michele Wrigley if you have a need or you know of an HTC member in need.
Blessings around the compass and the clock,
Pastor Derek and the HTC Community Outreach Team
