What does it mean to be born again? We use some of these phrases in the Church and this phrase in particular can be overlooked at times. We have to start at the very beginning. God our Creator formed humankind out of dust. (Gen. 2:7) Our very creation was dependent on God filling us with His breath of life.
Think about your childhood. Think of the first time you remember doing something wrong and facing the consequences of it. I remember the first time I lied to my mom. We were in a store and I stole a pack of gum when I was about 5 or 6 years old. She asked me how it got into our bag and I said I didn’t know. Well – she discovered I had stolen it because it was not on our receipt. She made me go back and apologize to the clerk and return the gum.
God created us pure and blameless. Sin caused us as humans to not see ourselves that way anymore. Sin separates us from God and the bridge that leads us to a relationship with God is through Jesus His son who died for our sins.
Our rebirth happens when we place our faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of our lives and we become a new creation. For it says in Isaiah 43:19 “Behold, I am doing a new thing.” When we are reborn through the grace of Jesus, we are constantly being refined and sanctified into a beautiful mold of who God intended us to be.
Our beauty lies within our brokenness. Grace is given to us by our Savior and He transforms our hearts, purifies our thoughts, and speaks through us. People around us will see Him in us – His image not ours. When people look at us, we want them to be reminded of Jesus. Our problems, our worries, our sinful patterns are all weaker than death. Jesus overcame death and His Spirit will enter your heart and transform you into a new creation.
Have you ever gotten a free gift and been able to tell someone else that they could go grab one too? It’s so exciting, whenever there is free chick-fil-a somewhere I go crazy and tell everyone they can have some too. It is so funny because that’s actually what we could do with the gift of Jesus. His gift is the most incredible gift in the world and not only has he entrusted us with the mission of spreading the Gospel, His Spirit now dwells within our new self and He speaks through us so that people would trust in Him like we have.
God has made you into a beautiful new creation, nothing can take away the love that God has for you and He will always be your Father and we will always be His beloved children.
